Mom said the heat index ...Boy, it was hot that day. Mom said the heat index was 105. I don't know about that, but I know it was so hot, even the dog wouldn't smile.

Mom took me to the park, she knew they'd open the hydrant. I thought the man with that big wrench would never get the valve open!

I had a blast! The water felt so cool! I kicked it, hit it, I even stuck out my tongue and tasted it.

The water shot up as high as the sky, it would take Batman to reach the top.

Mom got up from the bench and told me it was time to go. I splashed her, and she didn't even get mad. She had that tired, hot look in her face - she needed to cool down, too.

She smiled and held my hand as we walked back home. My shoes left wet footprints on the sidewalk for two blocks, and they made that neat squishy sound.

I hope it's 106 tomorrow, so she'll bring me back to the hydrant.Kim Lehnhoffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02516002280882854450noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5556512955091936745.post-5043589028042174442009-06-16T02:27:43.917-07:002009-06-16T02:27:43.917-07:00Splish ~ Splash

Around and around they went, in wider circles surrounding the fountain. I watched quietly as, first his father, and then his mother joined in the chase. Faster and faster they ran.

The dog started to bark and when the little boy saw his parents join in, he started to giggle. Back and forth, then in circles, dodging each other, barely close enough to grab, just missing each other. They were all laughing so hard they could hardly move.

Oh what a day to be free! To run, and laugh, and love! Mom & Dad were slowing down, but the smiles were plastered to their faces! They crept up to the boy who had stopped near the fountain. The dog bounced back and forth between them all, barking his delight in this game.

The little boy turned slowly, and then turned again, faster, running his hand over the top of the water! I heard shrieking and more laughter as the water sprayed them all! The young boy turned once again with his face to the sky, and both arms in the air! He collapsed in a tired heap with his family, arms outstretched, completely happy in the moment!

I was still laughing as I left the park. Yes, what a day to be free! To run, and laugh, and love!shabby girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03991126161405336712noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5556512955091936745.post-4778428343060415742009-06-12T12:30:58.682-07:002009-06-12T12:30:58.682-07:00I look at that face, frozen in time. The pleasure from nature's gifts. Just enjoying the art of living.

Sometimes I find it hard to believe he was me.

I look at my hands, scarred and worked through much toils. My skins is rough now, toughened and weathered. My eyes have seen sorrows. They still sparkle but in watery tears of having seen the troubles of the world.

I look at that face, frozen in time. How I miss that face.
