I am a rock
I am born from the cauldron of heat and pressure, both of which I have withstood and vanquished in my prosperity to be here for you.
I am solid. I will not move. I will not wince. I will not duck for cover or run away at the first sign of trouble.
I do not speak, but if I could it would be to praise you not to chastise.
I stay my ground so that you may judge your position by where I lay.
I shall not waver even as nature's forces try to push me out of their way or lessen me.
You may take shelter in the lea of me. You may hold me to anchor yourself to weather any tempest.
You may use me in defence against your enemies.
I am the projectile to slay your Goliath.
You may skip me across pristine lakes for your own amusement (but it would be nice if you would dive for me and bring me back to shore).
You may singe me in your fires and use me to keep warm through the bitterest of cold nights.
You may use me to hold thngs down where you wish them to stay, so you may come back again later to find them still there.
You may chip and fracture me to use me as a tool, for I am here for you.
I am your rock and for you I will roll, no matter where you wish me to alight.
Yet, if you paint a silly face on me, I will be your pet.
Rest assure that I am your rock and will be until time erodes me away.
With love, your father.

I am a rock that must stand strong when all else seems to fall around me. I am a rock that supports the little ones as they stumble through those early years. I am a rock for refuge when the lost need to come home. I am a rock because I am a mother.
I am a rock.
I stand alone through the storms.
Others seek shelter with me,
Beneath me.
I am strong and not easily moved.
I am a rock.
Sentinel, I wait.
Petrified by time.
Outer shell rock hard.
Within, my vibrancy hums.
I gaze at the heavens;
Patience my virtue.
Awaiting the return
of my mother.
Flowers
Thorns
Sunshines
Rainfalls
Days
Nights
Winters
Summers
Undisturbed
I live...
I am a rock.
When you wander through the darkness and find no one to hold
Remember that I AM
The days that fill your life with light and soul finds home
Remember that I AM
When you suffer with pain and find no relief to grasp
Remember that I AM
The time your body finds freedom and elasticity lasts
Remember that I AM
I AM the peace in your soul where you can find rest
I AM the hope stirring within you when put to the test
I AM the joy in your heart with every lightened moment
I AM the love which resides releasing you from torment
I AM
YOU are the One that settles my heart through every anxious day
I remember
YOU are the Potter who molds my life and shows me the way
I remember
YOU are the Father allowing me to clutch your mighty hand
I remember
YOU are the Song in my soul as I firmly stand
I remember
THE ROCK
Of my life
and
I love YOU
My mother once talked to me about how I resembled earth. I was nourishing and loving. I could help things to grow. But at that time I was dating a bulldozer and he pushed me around wherever he wanted me to go. He spread me thin and rolled over me.
He needs a rock, she said. Someone that will stand strong and immovable so he cannot push her around. He may not find her right away and he might not like her right away, but he needs a rock. And you aren't a rock. You are like earth.
Time passed and I found myself a tree. He stood tall and strong and I could nourish his roots and he dropped his leaves to nourish my soil right back. This was love.
Someday I hope that bulldozer finds his rock.

I like Dani's contribution. It makes sense.
@Dani -- What wonderful metaphors. Absolutely beautiful.
