It was more than i could handle as i stormed out of the house slamming the door behind me, and made my way across the lawn. I was shaking with anger, and could feel the tears wanting desparately to escape down my face but brushed them away. This time i was not going to give in to them. I was not in the wrong and i was sick of being made the bad guy.
I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply calming myself, letting my breath gush out and opened my eyes. The sun had already started to set behind the hills and as it did so it made the shadows of the trees stretch out across the lawn like long dark fingers. I looked around me and for the first time since moving to this house i noticed the beauty of my surroundings. The light played through the trees, like a cheeky child playing hide and seek. The scene being played out before me by the sun and shadows was like watching to lovers dance their last dance before parting ways.
This time the tears did escape. I never heard him come up behind me just felt his arms wrap themselves around me and heard his whispered words 'I'm sorry'. I leaned back into him as we stood in silence and watched the final glimmer of light disappear behind the hill and the shadows merge into darkness.

Was it this way in life too?
The path leads to you but there are no flowers or footprints on the wet grass.
The only visitor is the morning sun, the only communication is the silent play of shadows.
Was it this way in life too?
THE LONG SHADOWS
The long shadows are settling across the meadow floor
Whispering the promises for the end of the day
Dodging and weaving over shrubbery and trees
As one last glance of vivid green grass is seen
What does the night hold when the shadows let go
And the darkness creeps upon the land
What undying pledge do the shadows now make
To get us through till the end
Cindy skipped across the grass. She felt pretty today. Mommy let her wear her shiny black shoes with the strap. And she was wearing her new frilly yellow dress with the white flowers. It was her favorite. She swung her arms back and forth so that they swished the skirt of her dress. She liked the sound it made. Like crinkly paper. She twirled once. Twice. Watching the skirt float upwards. A giggle escaped and she clasped her hands on her mouth. Shhhh ... She must be quiet. Mommy didn't want her to play outside and get dirty. But it was oh so sunny out and the birds were chirping to come out and sing with them. She spied the stepping stones and began to hop. One. Two. Three ... "Cindy! Time to go, sweetheart!" Cindy sighed. "I'll come back tomorrow," she whispered to the birds, and skipped back to the house.
The sun is bright
Through the trees
All is still, quiet
There is no breeze
The sun is fading
To the soft ground
The trees whisper softly
Making no sound
Their shadow stretching
Farther and farther
Softly reaching
Holding together
The tip almost touches
The last stepping stone
But then it is hidden
No longer on it's own
The sun is fading
Behind the earth
The long shadows are sleeping
Until tomorrows rebirth
Shadows from the rising sun partioned the grass. She had watched them grow toward her, quicker than their living counterparts. The shadows were on her toes now; enough time had passed for her to go back inside. Her feet had become rooted in place, and did not want to move, but she picked them up and put on her shoes nonetheless.
The house was emptier than the yard without the birds calling good morning, or the trees wispering back. It was still and silent until she came to the hall.
She pressed the blinking button, not knowing what to expect, and not daring to hope for anything.
"Terra, what happened to you? You hung up so fast I didn't get to tell you- its a girl! She's a girl! Seth an-" Terra siezed the machine and flung it away from herself like it was an angry animal. It splintered on the floor, cutting off the message. Terra pressed her forehead to the cool window, feeling herself become seperated by the shadows. But all she could think was- that poor girl...

Some won't walk this path with me because they say that they can't see where we'll end. I'm sad for them because I choose to walk the path where wisdom takes me. The wisdom to choose adventure and fullness in life not attempt to live in sameness or staleness. It's not my wisdom; it's God's wisdom to choose eternity... even though I don't know what that looks like.
Whenever I venture to the yard
Standing in the warmth of the sunshine
That has found a way around the trees
I smile
Turning my body around swiftly
Finding the place to set my foot
I gaze into the rays as they bring forth light
I see
The beauty of the trees
As they stand so tall and boldly
In a row before me
I wonder
If the long shadows on this grass
Might feel the firmness
Of being one with the attaching tree
Long shadows
