EYE SEE

I see you every morning when you awake
I see you fixing your lunch and preparing for work
I see you when you kiss me goodbye, wishing me a good day

I see you every afternoon as I look around our comfortable home
I see you even when you aren't here
I see you when you call with the 30 minute warning as I prepare our supper

I see you with a happy heart when you finally arrive for the night
I see you as you relish your meal and settle in for the evening
I see you as we share our day, sometimes in words or in comfortable silence

I see you as we call it a night, express our love and head for bed
I see you in my fractured dreams, you're always on my mind
I see your essence, I see your heart, my eyes can see your love

I am keeping retinas gently in suspension.
It's just my way
To kindly say,
"Now, pupils, pay attention".

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but no two beholders are the same. So the question remains, what is beauty? What is anything really, if different pairs of eyes observe the world differently? It's all subjective, what's beautiful, what's ugly. It's all in the eyes.

They say eyes are windows into the soul. How is it that something so small on the body can speak so much? In a simple glance, you can see thoughts hidden behind them.

No need to see the mouth, the nose, or any other part of the body.
All you need to see is the eyes, or just one eye, to understand an emotion.

One can see shining in the eye,
A gentle glisten of happiness,
A sad, downcast demeanor,
A curiosity,
A shocking surprise,
Loneliness,
Longing,
Love...

All can be seen in the eyes.
The windows to the soul.

As I lay on the bed, suddenly I felt awareness; it was a Voice within me, telling me to get up and to look into the mirror. I couldn’t ignore the Voice; it would not allow me to.

Off the bed and standing there at the mirror, I looked at myself wondering what this was all about. I asked the Voice, “Why do you want me to stand here, in the mirror?” The voice tells me to look into my own eyes. I get a little closer to the mirror as I look into my eyes. “What do you see?” asks the Voice. I tell it, “I see my eyes.”

“What do you see in your eyes?” asks the Voice.

“I see a reflection.” I answer. “A reflection of what?” asks the Voice.

“I see a reflection of light.”

The Voice was gone and all I was left with were the feelings of this bold statement. Within my eyes, there is a reflection of light. What does this mean? I wondered to myself.

A few days later, I was reading when I looked up to see these words and that moment in my mirror all made sense to me. For the first time, the question mark within my mind was formed into an exclamation.

The words that I saw were on a bag that a woman was carrying through the park. As she walked by me, I could feel a gentle presence of something great…something more than words. I had to look away from my book and these are the words that I read:

“For light I go directly to the Source of light, not to any of the reflections.”

Those eyes within
won't allow diversion.

Piercing through my cement
with a steady glance.

Outside world is blind
to the critic inside.
