What is it that butterflies dream?

Butterflies dream
Of sunshine, of flowers and nectar.
Yellow sunshine, yellow flowers, yellow nectar.
Bright sunshine, bright flowers, bright nectar.
Of time to fly, to flutter, to float
Up and away.
Butterflies wake
And fly, flutter, float... away.

I hope you have a very merry Christmas, that Santa brings you everything you deserve and that it doesn’t take too long to work off the effects of Christmas dinner.

Thank you for being part of what has been a fascinating year for me.

they dream of...
being the stuff of dreams
flitting in and out
coloring imaginations
songs
big fields of wildflowers
and light breezes...

They dream of the world outside the cocoon. That first burst of sunlight as the pod begins to give way to a reborn, revitalized beautiful butterfly. Such a short lifespan, their beauty is intensified to compensate for the short time on this earth. They dream of the free flight to come unshackled by the chains of the earthbound worm and the suffocating cocoon.

The butterfly was dreaming
about the moon moth again.
In the dream the moth visited
the butterfly by the honeysuckles,
and whispered to her:
“I light up silver in the moonlight,
and you light up gold in the sunlight.
But in our cocoons we are just the
shadows of an eclipse.”

Butterflies spend the day spreading beauty and color around the world in tiny dustings invisible to the naked eye. They are programmed by nature to do this to counter the disease and destruction that is spread around the world by the “true flies” (houseflies, horseflies, mosquitoes and gnats). They are, by nature, in alliance with the “war flies” (dragonflies and fireflies) in the great battle against the true flies.

They are also, by nature, in alliance with the lovely damselflies. The damselflies are every bit as beautiful as the butterflies except they don’t come in as many varieties. The butterflies aren’t really sure what it is that the damselflies do, but they are aware that the war flies, when they aren’t making war, spend much their time with the damselflies.

The butterflies go to bed at night because their powers are only effective during the light of day. The fireflies sleep during the day.

The dragonflies and the damselflies, however, are awake all day and all night.

Asleep, the butterflies dream they are damselflies spending the night spreading beauty and color around the world in tiny dustings invisible to the naked eye.

Precious life beats
with a pulse
of metamorphosis

thrum, thrum, thrum

Wet wings
fill with each
and unfurl
to glorious
splendor

And the heart
beats

And the wings
beat

And life is touched
by
miracles

thrum, thrum, thrum

Sunshine
The winged lady in red
Green leaves
Flower hopping
Bright yellow petals
A longer life
Color palettes
A sea flowing with nectar
My cati’s flying into the world

Every day the little boy watches the butterfly fly around his yard and he dreams. He dreams of floating through the air as majestically as this little creature that he watches.

Every day the sweet butterfly watches the little boy running, playing in his yard down below and she dreams. She dreams of living with foot on solid ground, gliding through the grass as joyously and full of bounce as this wondrous creature that she watches.

I dream of my destination in California after my 2,000 mile journey.
I dream of nestling into the eucalyptus trees with my million and one brothers, hanging like an orange and black blanket dripping in the fog.
I dream of returning to my northern home to reproduce my young.
I dream of the fullness of necter and the food of my desire.

Chaos Theory
or In Your Dreams, Butterfly!

Green thing, pink thing, green thing,
Yellow thing, green thing, quick fling,
Green thing, mauve thing, green thing,
White thing, thin thing, egg thing,
Green thing, red thing, green thing.
Blue thing, green thing, dead thing.

This poem looses something in translation; the butterfly lexicon has over 10,000 words for green, 200 words each for most other colours and, surprisingly, no words for a piano accordian.

Thanks for the award - I'm flattered, especially in the light of so many other good entries! I was going to pick out Simply Heather, Shabby Girl and... and then I realised they are all good! I don't envy you the task of picking your awards !
