Sitting on the bank...

Suggested prompt...
~
Sit on the bank of this river...
hear the water, the wind, perhaps the
train coming from far away, feel the cool, the damp.
Now... write.

______________

We will melt into the mist,
Slip across the azure border
Of green indivisible water,
Hidden from those
Seeking to stifle
The sunlight of our being.
We will dissolve,
Like the moon in the harsh light
Of the risen day.
Crossing the bridge,
We will breathe our freedom,
And continue our journey.

~ Sacha van Straten

Wow Sacha... what a beautiful piece of writing to go with this beautiful photograph.

Sacha - that's an amazing piece. ;)

She was weary.

The tasks on her list stood in an unconquerable pile on her desk at work. Her internal pressure rose with each demand placed on her.

But, her lone thought remained on the gift at the end of the day.

The gift of solitude. Of quiet. Of introspection. The gift of her special place.

The place where she could let it all go and collapse into the earth and allow the dense mist to envelope her being.

A gift.

"Air Admiring the Water"

I watch you shine in the sunlight,
and when I touch you I make you bubble.
When I am warm in the summer you are soft.
When I am cold in the winter you are hard.
I tell the heron to rest by your shores, and the moon to turn you silver. I let autumn maple leaves
drift down to you. They look perfect on you: like
rubies mixed into a string of diamonds.

@ Sacha: "We melt into mist" is a wonderful opening line.

@ Denise: I like how you show the brook as offering peace to the tired soul. :)

@ Laura: Thank you so much for your site. I'm so glad I found it! These are great daily writing prompts, and really get me thinking about new and fresh ideas.

Sacha, when I first read your entry, I said no one can top that! Beautifully written with such feeling.

Denise, you pretty much hit on how I had been feeling just before my husband and I found the spot! It truly was a special place and was perfect to soothe the soul.

Kristin I loved the every bit of yours.

All were beautifully written and top notch in my humble opinion. I can't wait to share the writings with my husband when he wakes up. (he worked until 2am).

Thank you LJ for posting the photo and having this beautiful blog where one can step away from problems and find a sense of peace by creating art with words, photography and other materials.

Even though the technology is hundreds of years old, trains continue to provide a chance to experience far off lands from the vantage point of steel highways winding through untouched landscapes. Soon, the Seward express will venture onto the trestle again like so many mornings before. Leaving only the faint aroma of burning oak and hickory behind as it delivers it's passengers to their destinations. Within seconds, the rumble and the vibrations give way to the soothing sounds of water and the occasional thrush once again. The Seward express knows that it is only a visitor here, leaving the river as undisturbed.

I would have to stay until night fell. I love to watch the moonlight dance across the water like sprites.

Hi everybody,

Many thanks for your lovely comments. As I wrote the poem in under three minutes I feel something of a fraud, as I can't claim to have sweated over the style and substance of it (as I had to with the diamante poem earlier in the week). I find that with the prompts LJ provides, the words tend to tumble out.

Kristin - adore your use of language. I can tell you're a literature student. :-)

@ Leah - moonlight and sprites. What a beautifully innocent image you conjure.

@ Denise - I know that feeling (often at the end of a day giving everything of myself to my students). I have places like this in France, which is why I've made my home there, even though I work in England. Succinctly put. ;-) The Roman poet Horace wrote a beautiful pastoral poem, in which he brings a spring to life and lovingly describes the natural features around it. If I can find you a translation I'll send it to you.

@ Dan - I see you dping something Horace-esque with your words, giving the train the power of cognitive reflection. I love trains, but don't seem to use them enough.

Finally, to Laura Jayne, thank you for bringing this idea to life. You are an absolute star.

Until the next time!

Sacha
