Write a tale that includes this castle.

Empty eyes stare out across the headland to the wild waters. Crumbling, aged bones, tired of standing sentinel.

The soldiers of yore are long gone - their spears and cannon no longer trouble the castle. New foes now are wind, rain, sleet, snow and ice.

The succeed where humans failed. Seagulls and terns wheek and cry where lords and ladies once resided.

If she could be Emma Bovary, she would no longer suffocate in a country doctor's home. In her dreams, this young librarian became a new Emma surrounded by attentive gentleman and envious ladies in the grand ballroom of a 15th century castle. How this young librarian felt Emma's desire to be the center of her court as all paid homage. Revising Flaubert's heroine, the careful, introspective librarian hoped that maybe she could save her favorite heroine from the ultimate despair. In her novel, Emma's dresses would sparkle in the moonlight as she walked the courtyard of her castle home.

across the cliffs, i look at the castle, but i see a prison. poor princess, locked away, missing out on so much out there, held down by chains of love and worries for her safety. for the first second, i envy her, but it drops away when i remember how i love my little cottage, the open fields, and seeing the clear blue sky. no more am i jealous of the princess's perfect golden curls; the life-giving breeze lifting my plain brown hair from my face would just be too precious to give up. no, i think i'll stay where i am and let the princess have her castle.
