I feel so alone
Looking out at the world
No one could truly love me
I've been told all my life
What I am is so wrong
How could anyone possibly see

It is not a choice
There is not a chance
For me to happily be free
I am only what I am, you see
I can be nothing else
But little ol' "unnatural" me

I look out at the world
I feel so alone
For no one can see me for me
Those ones down the street
At the church building- no
Neither the ones in my
Very own home

I am so alone
Looking out at the world
I see no one really loves me
For I long for those unlike myself
I long for those
...just like me

---

I feel I may need explanation for this poem. I personally know and love some wonderful people that are outcast because of their sexuality. Whether it is religiously something I embrace or not, I embrace them as wonderful, loving, and beautiful people who need love and acceptance as much as anyone else. Please embrace those around you- don't let them feel alone!

Looking out into the world, I fear who I may become. Do I have the strength to share myself with such a gruesome, tearing at your soul, kind of place? Should I expect anyone to understand me? I think that I may be better still, living here in the quiet solitude of my own world; where I am free to be me.

when i look towards the light
you only see my silhouette
black
and you question
i have no answers
for you
only that i see color
and when i turn around
i only see you

Out on the terrace on Avenue B at a party with strangers.

This man with thick black glasses said, "The buildings are laid
out in a specific pattern. You can look at them and appreciate it."
He looked familiar. It thought he was in a britpop band from the nineties. I asked him if I met him before. He answered, "And the skyscrapers have specific lights on. It's so the skyline always looks bright. It's the law. It's illegal to turn the lights off." I looked out, and tried to connect the streets and the lights, they all led us to the piers, to the docks, to taking our shoes off, and diving in the murky waters. Ignoring the impulse I asked him if he was from England originally, and he answered, "It takes forever to get used to the grid, but once you realize it's just a bunch of connecting circles you get around fine."

I see buildings, roads, tiny cars, matchstick men scurrying like ants.

I can't see ants - can they see my building?

This city is really starting to take shape. I see buildings rising where I remember only fields and woods when I was a boy, coming into town for a day with my father. This skyscraper and its neighbor stand where only short buildings used to be. I want to help build this city, and I am determined to. My interview is in a few moments with the firm in charge of building the next skyscraper. I will help build the next one, and someday my name will mean something.

Looking out
for everyone else
when all I need
is one to look out for me

Dani, {applauding your words} I agree :)

Thank you, Simply Heather, I appreciate that!

My first night there,
alone, in that big room
hearing sirens
and silence.

Looking out
I was amazed
how far I could see, and
how far I couldn't.

Push my sight
through the horizon.
Grab hold of my thoughts
and take off to nowhere.
Exit the rational
to celebrate the emotion.
Accept the company
within your own soul.
