She was searching for...

____________________________

it was there all the time

she gazed across the sea of green
to the place where she had come
where was she going?
what did she think she was doing?
there were no answers for her on this side
but
what she didn't know was what she had been seeking
was all around her
within her
she only needed to open
her heart
to see
go off the beaten path
he said
go beyond your wildest dreams
he said
what he didn't say was
that this would
be the hardest journey of her
life
she would not have a map
she would not have a guide
she would be alone with only her wits and her strength
what she didn't know was that
she loved this
she knew just where she was going
she didn't need anyone to tell her what to do
she just did it
by her wits and her strength
and then she realized that the true
journey
was not on that path
nor across that bridge
but the journey was within
for all that she was seeking
it was there all the time

She was searching for the clarity that she owned as a child. What was the future has now come to be her reality. From her vantage point, she could not see what the future held for her. With the prompting of her trusted companion, she stepped off the treadmill away from the confusion and the "only 19.95 but wait there is more..." existence her adult life had given her and found her own reality. A reality that truly belongs to her and her alone. The bridge has begun to come into focus and with her companion following behind her directing her path, she will shortly cross it to see the crystal clear point on the horizon and follow her dreams.

Comment: The depth of field in this image is striking. A photo with such emphasis on the distant horizon made if very easy to add a narrative. This is truly a image that begs for a story.

Running
Her labored breath
Pours into the air

Crying
Her wind whipped tears
Trail behind her

Releasing
Her long held dreams
Shattering around her

Surrendering
Her abrupt stop
Quiets the air

Searching
Her purposed look
Setting her gaze upward

Asking
Her needy soul
Longing to see

God

Emily was only looking for a little solitude. A place to think things through. Finally get some quiet time to make some decisions.

She could see the place she wanted just beyond the bridge, but she looked as if she was having second thoughts. Perhaps those childhood stories about trolls living under bridges was lurking in her subconscious.

She apparently fought off her misgivings and moved slowly forward, unaware of who was in fact positioned beneath this bridge.

I was glad now that I had decided to follow her.

Through the Landcape

The sky will open up
The barriers cease,
When the heavens reveal
The expanse of their secrets.
The unwary traveller,
Lost in thoughts, lost in time
Unexpectedly
Finds herself
Marooned in the freedom
Of her own intentions.

Hi Dan - I hadn't considered that the point of view might be someone following form a distance. That's such a great perspective to start with, leading to an evocative scene.

Hi Denise - love the poem. Dark and broody.

Hi Don - fantastic interpretation. Reminds me of scary Grimm tales as a child!

She was searching for some peace; that place where love was enough. That place where knowing you were loved was enough to carry you into being a loving, responsible adult.
Oh the weight of hindsight! She could scream with the unfairness of it, the guilt of it.
But she can't go back, can't undo the times she was too busy, the times when it was just faster and easier to do things herself, the times when she wasn't paying attention.
You can't undo the past.
They don't listen now. They're too old. They know too much.
Start them young. Teach them about earning what they have. Teach them to help others. Volunteer with them. Teach them that their self-esteem does not depend on others' view of them but by the value they see and create in themselves.

She was searching for a means to make it through the haze of her outer being into the clarity of her Self. She sensed it was there. Could feel its pulse. And hungered for the tranquility it would provide.

Her soul longed to be unfettered from its self-applied constraints, which clung to her like a heavy cloak. She needed to: be nourished by the caress of a gentle breeze, be tickled by the long blades of the sweet summer grasses that absentmindedly brushed against her ankles and waltz with the shadows cast by the windswept clouds as they danced their way across the sky.

She needed to become one with her inner sanctuary.

She stood looking out over the horizon. She has always loved the way the earth met the sky here. The land she roamed as a child is always where she comes to clear her mind. She is searching today. Searching for herself. She stands smiling out at the distance. She sees the young girl she was running there ahead of her. The young girl had such fire. Such spirit and faith. She laughs out loud to herself as she remembers. She just might find herself again today.

She was searching for PEACE. With all of her worries, she needed a place to be alone with herself and get away of everybody else. A place to be herself. There, she won't need to pretend she doesn't care about little things that make us all happy.

Thanks Laura Jayne for the honor! I think that since this actually poured out of my heart within five minutes that I may need to take this advice to heart...
Enjoy the day!
