Fly Away

Suggested prompt...
Use the idea of flying away in your writing today.
Literally or figuratively... either works, just get creative.

Spirit's flapping wings
ripple through my chest.

Sky pulls and startles me
out of my hold on the ordinary.

Conscious me wants to cage wings
retreating to my usual box.

Warm tears river through face
wondering what cloud calls me.

One week after the photo or picture is posted I will pick one offering to put beneath the image. This is a way of celebrating exceptional creativity. Any and all posts are available for your creative mind to make an offering at any time (even ones where a writing has been placed on the front page like this one). If you are new here and want to offer to every image here, feel free. We are writers, WRITE! If this is your exceptional writing posted here on the Front Page Pictures, Poetry & Prose invites you to include the Exceptional Writing Award Button on your blog. Visit the Exceptional Writing Award post for the details and the button to download.

"No one can stay in the Garden of Eden forever." ~Baldwin, Giovanni's Room

It's not that the cage isn't splendid,
or the food not plentiful m'lord.
And it isn't that you are too strict with me,
or that the scenery leaves me quite bored.

You see, I'm actually happy here
and I love to serenade you personally.
But the fact remains,
I still live in a cage,
And all wild things yearn to be free.

The Image brings to mind the Tree in Forest Gump...the Tree that Jenny saw the birds flying away and wanted so badly to join them in their flight to escape the abuse at home.

Whether child or adult, we dream of taking flight with the birds, joining them on their journey far away from where we are...places only visited in our dreams...places only the birds can take us.

Thank you, Sarah and Dan, I enjoyed both of your insights!

may seem to
Tie you down
At times it
holds you
to the ground
as you learn
to let love be
Up to the sky
It flies so free

Has anyone ever read Kate Chopin's "Story of an Hour?". When I first saw this picture and the prompt, I immediatly thought of that story, and this would be what Louise Mallard, the main character would see out her window after she is told that her husband has died. See, she was surpressed by him, and couldn't help but be blissfully happy that she was now free- free as the birds! That cloud looks vaugly to me like the profile of a skull, which would serve a scary premotintion in the story, but I won't give anything away.

fly away
live a life that's free
twinkle by
'bye' I say
'until again we meet'

I am a fledgling bird
With tiny wings
I have not yet learned to fly
I try
I hover
And then I fall
But refuse to give up
I try again
Fall again
But my will is such
That I do not let my failures
Hold me down
I will fly someday
And I shall travel
And learn
And grow
I dream of the day
I will fly
And feel the wind
Beneath my wings
Wings that will be strong
I shall be strong
And free
I dream of the day
That I shall be free

Reaching into the air, the little bird leaped inside just wanting so much to follow his momma bird.

She returned a few minutes later with a juicy morsel for his hungry little belly, then she left again.

Each time she left, he'd reach with all of his might to follow her. Every time, gaining strength.

Each time she left, she'd return with another tasty morsel. Every time, encouraging his growth.

Again, momma bird flew away in search of another tasty morsel for her little bird. When she returned, she found the nest empty.

Above her, in the sky, was her little baby bird...soaring; no longer a baby, but as mighty as an airplane in all of his winged strength.

"Fly away, my mighty baby bird.
Fly away."

Fly away.
Nothing can stay forever.

If I could fly away like Peter Pan
I’d fly away up into to the clouds
Where I would visit Angels before
I visited all the wondrous places of the world
First would be the pyramids of Egypt
Where I would sit atop of the largest one
To look down on the desert stretched out before me
Then I would float to Mount Everest
Where I would soar like an eagle
To its highest peak and sit in the snow
While I survey the labours of mountain climbers
As they seek to reach the summit
I would visit the Eiffel Tower, Venice, Rome
And many other places
Before I glided with the currents
In my quest to find a new world
A land of milk and honey where there are no wars or terrorists
No sorrow, murder or rape, only happiness
Where people love and care for one another
And there I would stay
I am dreaming but I wish it were true yes,
If only I could fly away like Peter Pan
To find a world that was paradise.
