Gemma had never been the patient one, but she was willing to wait for this. But the boat kept steady on its course, straight for the dock and all she knew was that she was waiting for a boy named Dominic Vreeland. "About your age." Her mother had said distractedly. Gemma didn't know how she would explain to Alex that her mother, his suppoused aunt, wasn't there to greet him. She wondered if he had known about her -Gemma- known that he'd had a cousin for the past 18 years. Gemma hadn't. She didn't even know that her mother had other family until a few days before.

The boat was near enough now that she could see the faces of some of the dozen or so passangers. She didn't know what to think- that she would know him in one glance? People started to file onto the dock around her, and there was only one boy her age. He looked normal to her, though he was travel worn and clearly exhausted, hardly able to hold on to his small suitcase. "Dominic?" She said and stepped right up to him, deciding to get it over with. He looked at her through a fog and then much to her surprise, smilied and said, "Hi, Gem."

Waiting on the shadowed dock,
I feel the breeze and see the wake
As she comes from the sunlit shore.

Patience in attending is good
But, Oh that I would grab the oars
And row out to meet her!

I am looking at the water trail...how it is there for a minute and then it's gone. But that is just water...so powerful and yet so 'invisible'.

I am thinking of all the 'invisible' trails, left by the numerous ships and boats that float and move on these waters. How many people have stand here before me waiting, watching these 'lines' getting closer, anxious to reach out and touch their loved ones...

The boat is here already and I don't need to picture you anymore. You are there among the people 'on' this invisible water-trail. I can see you waving, smiling, hopping and yelling--I think I am, too!

As the boat approaches the dock I take one last look at the water. It stands still as if it has set the way for the next passing boat.

Still I know that I'll remember the trail forever, even if it's 'invisible'. It is the trail that brought you back to me...

Girl off to be wed

Freedom arrives in minutes,
as I see my vessel arrow waters.
Chance for life anchors soon,
as I gather all of me on dock.

Life begins with captain's hand,
as he asks for me by name.
Marriage to my love awaits,
as I wipe tears from Mama's eyes.

Waiting on the dock for him
Waiting to see my love

I see the boat coming towards me
The waves rock the deck a bit
I feel the motion and begin to sway

My emotions overtake me today
