Suggested prompt...

Consider the light and dark of this striking image,
consider the idea of shadows and include shadows in your writing today...
literally or figuratively.

Shadows.

I saw the topic and it stopped me.

After everything. After everything I have gone through. AFTER everything you have gone through.

Shadows.

It has such a negative tone to it. But on a hot day can give such a relief.

Relief.

A shadow on the street under a sun reminds us who we are. We all look the same. No colour, no sex, no religion. You can't tell that from a shadow. Not always.

A shadow can remind you and make you appreciate the good things in life. The sun. The light. Sunny days. Bright days. Positive things.

Everything looks different in shadow. And like problems, the shadows change. They get different forms as the sun moves. As we progress in life. They get a different meaning.

I think the key is to keep our face toward the light and the sun, leave the shadows behind, but at the same time remember who we are and where we came from. And that every single human being on this Earth is the same. Deserves the same. Should be valued as same. It also reminds us that as we all have shadows, so do we have anxieties and tribulations, there's always someone out there that is going through something similar to what you are going through.

We are never alone.

Shadows can be beautiful. You can find beauty in them. As you can from tribulations and anxieties in life. They can give you insight and strenght you would not get otherwise. And one day you will be able to give that insight to someone else.

Gain strenght from weaknesses.

Let your shadow change. And give light and comfort to someone. When you are ready.

Don't forget the shape of your shadow.

Ever.

Shadow Dancing ...

Stretched across the
Horizon,the wet sand
Adored their footprints.
Dew covered leaves
Of the high pine trees
Watered the wild flowers.

Dazzling evening lights set
Ablaze the city behind them,
Night was progressing under
Clear skies.They walked on
Into the sea waters,being
Nostalgic of the days of youth
Gone by,like shadows in dark.

Wrote this for another prompt yesterday .. Hope u liked it .. crossposted at my blog :

Sitting here in the morning light, shadows of wind charged trees cover the chair opposite me like a moving tapestry. Light and dark float over the chair fabric in a sketchy kind of dance. Nothing definable. The shadows are all about energy and movement.

The image so clearly sets up the stark contrast between light and shadows. It is truly a metaphor of life. The shadows are comfortable..a place to take refuge out of the burning glare of examination and criticism. However at some point in our life we have to take that step into the light in order to move forward with our lives. That willingness to "take on the world" with all it's wonders and disappointments alike is the DNA of the Human Condition. We are hardwired to step out of the shadows...even though the shadows offer a refuge...they are false refuges filled with others afraid to become vulnerable and begin living in the light.

First seen, I thought it was bath towels spilling down onto a floor, alternating black and white, the folds of falling captured.

Dan Falstead- you had a different take on this than I ever have thought about. Light and dark are usually seen as positive and negative so much, I would have never thought of it the other way around, as the darkness is a refuge and the light is exposure. Very interesting insight! It's so true that many of us want so much privacy that we miss out on some good things if we didn't step out into the exposure of light.

Do this or Do that
Have that or Have this
Give this or Give that
Either this or Then it's that
Black and White

But some things aren't Black and White
Too many things remain Gray
Sometimes I wish there were more Black and White
Decisions can remain Obvious
However it Rarely is this way

I find my Black and White decisions come
Once in a Blue Moon
While the Gray envelopes all other things
Daily shadowing Life

But without the Gray, I believe,
Although there would be less Confusion,
There would be less Intelligence
Less potential in the Gradual Growth
of the Human Mind

This is why I've Learned
To Love the color Gray.

I hate this place.
I know he’s there lurking behind those shadows.
Hiding behind those columns.
Waiting for me. Waiting.
I’ll come back on an overcast day.
I keep him waiting.

You walk down the halls. The looming pillars of stark white marble gleam in the light, with no imperfections to be found. You see the three young girls laughing. One of swept back brown hair, one of flowing auburn locks, and one of stick straight blonde hair, all wrapped up in their finery, perfect heads tossed back in seemingly carefree laughter. You shift your eyes to the left, and see an equally beautiful creature. A small and pale girl, jet black hair messed as if she was just in from a morning ride. Unlike the other girls, her apparent sisters, her delicate face is not thrown back in laughter. Her small lips are clenched together, a rumpled line, eyes scrunched together, in an almost glare. You avert your eyes from her, up to the godly balcony overhead, where two gorgeous adults stand, preening over their perfect brood. Their proud smiles falter and fail some as their eyes come to rest upon the small and darker child, hiding among the shadows of their perfect family.

Some prefer shadows
Others prefer light
The victorious decide
Which is wrong and which is right
How would you know it is daytime
If there was never any night?
After all, history is written
by the ones who win the fight...
