The dew is frozen on my window
The frost is crusted along the walk
The lantern's glow above the snow
Is beckoning a happy thought

The robin lights upon the ground
A stroke of red upon his breast
I wonder how the frost must feel
His tiny toes are froze at best

He hops from here to there about
As if to break away the white
His happy dance is filled with glee
Perhaps there's more to his delight

The spring is near, he seems to say
As I wonder at his soft compose
The bite of winter's presence here
Is shown upon my reddening nose

And so I stand upon the step
Outside my wintered walls
Then enter within its warm embrace
And when I peak, the robin calls

"You'll see, you'll see
My human friend
The frost indeed
Is yet to end!"

I know you're unsure but stay put until you've weighed all of your options.

I know your frightened by so much ice but enjoy watching the small green blades of grass hopefully sprouting through.

I know you're scared but I've seen you push through worse circumstance.

Spring is on its way...hold on.

The precious reminder that life survives to produce the next generation out of the cold and often bleak days of winter, is a gift on a day when there seem to be an endless number of decisions to make, and battles to fight, and hours to live. Our moments, as unique as those of young robin's moments, offer the gift of hope and the opportunity to begin again on a new day.

Robins are truly the harbingers of Spring. When I see a Robin... I am lifted by the promise to come.

This is the last time I book a trip through a cut-rate travel agent. "Sunny shores" indeed.

And there stood the Robin, so delicate in the winter air, his feathers only slightly ruffled.

I asked him from where he came, as I squatted a short distance away, my hand outstretched... as if he would dare lift his wings and perch on my gloved finger.

He tilted his head to the side, considering me carefully.

It was much warmer when I left, he answered.

And then he took flight as the cold wind came by. See you in a month or so, he called as he disappeared down the frozen lane.

Fat little pixie
came out a bit too soon
but maybe spring will come early
if you sing a little tune?
