Yesterday, to celebrate his 70th birthday, my Dad went sky diving for the first time in his life.
I went to watch and keep my Mom company (and attempt to keep her calm). When he was all geared up and ready to head to the plane he was grinning like a kid in a candy store. I can't recall ever seeing him so excited.
Once he touched down safely (and after Mom had snuck a drink to help her nerves) his first reaction was, "What an awesome experience!"
His later thoughts were quite well represented by this quote: "I don't know why I waited seventy years to do that!"
I've gone sky diving twice myself, so I know how he feels. I just never would have even dreamed he'd decide to do it now.
I'll remember the look on his face for the rest of my life.
One week after the photo or picture is posted I will pick one offering to put beneath the image. This is a way of celebrating exceptional creativity. You had a way about you that put everyone at ease. You knew how to make us smile, and you always pushed me to think. I wish I could push through the clouds and hug you one more time. Daddy's girl wants to reach for your hand and feel totally safe again.
Dad, to put it simply, you're the best. I couldn't ask for anyone better. I love you.

Dad,
You held down two jobs to make ends meet, so I didn't see you all that much as a child.
I always knew you were there, though, a constant figure in our lives.
You gave me word games to play - they cost nothing, but thanks to them I'm great at crosswords and puzzles, and scrabble, and my verbosity is admired.
I've a lot to thank you for, so here it is "Thanks"
